What does "Importing metadata for signature files" indicate

Suddenly after updating we find our K1000 not patching again.  Under Subscriptions "Last Patch Update Status: Importing metadata for signature files".  Can anyone give me an answer of what this signifies other than the obvious Importing metadata.....?  Maybe this is normal???

Here are my Patch Download log files from last night, sorry I don't really now how to read them or what the errors mean.

  • UPDATE:
Kace Technicians where in the back end of our K1 last week and did something that has made patching work again. I don't know what and have asked them what they did, but no response yet. I still do get an error email that patch download failed at the scheduled 3am time. I check the logs and see a couple of flags but waiting for Kace to tell me the cause and if I need to change something. - wessdf 8 years ago

Hello,

the message is normal: it means that after download all the signature files a process is parsing them and importing some data inside the database of the K1000.
Is that message followed with other messages?
Check the K1000 Server log as well.
What version are you running of the K1000?
 Kind regards,
Marco - StockTrader

    • All seems ok from the log...there are some minor errors but they seem to be 'notes' only.
Do you have issues with the patching?
If you look in the catalog do you have something there? (look for all individual patches and not only for applicable packages)
      Kind regards,

      • Patching either error out at handshake or just sit at detecting or something like that. Haven't tried in a week or so, ill will start one now and see if anything happens. - wessdf 8 years ago
      • Started patch on one of my machines:
        Error (Handshake Failed)
Connection is good, last inventory 12 minutes ago, current agent installed - wessdf 8 years ago
    • If you have the handshake error on all your device than something could be bad in the database of the K1000 about the patch tables.
But the problem could be something else that is interfering with the download of the required files on the client side.
I'd recommend to call the support before to implement other solutions.
      Kind regards,

Sometimes, this has to do with the subscription setting when trying to download patches.
This can be corrected using the best practices for patching.

we had the same problem and it turned out it's windows 10 in patch OS subscription causing the problems.

we switched from all windows OS in inventory to select just the needed OS versions and deselect windows 10. Now patchdownload runs fine without any errors and completes all steps until it shows updated for signature and files download.

Comments:
  • n1md4, that is what we have, only selected OS that we want patched, no win 10. Kace Technicians where in the back end of our K1 last week and did something that has made patching work again. I don't know what and have asked them what they did, but no response yet. - wessdf 8 years ago
