VMWare Workstation 6.0.3

Hello,

I am trying to make an MSI package for VMware Workstation 6.0 and embed in the serial key within the installer. I am using Orca to edit the tables and add information for the details of this installation.

Currently, all of the settings from the package are deployed except for the registration and serial information. Has anyone deployed an MSI of this application (Version 6.0) with their key embedded?

Currently, I am adding to the Property table:

SERIALNUMBER XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX, and changing some other options pertaining to network interfaces etc.

Any help is greatly welcomed.

Cheers,

Brent.

You should NEVER directly edit vendor MSIs. ALWAYS use a transform. As for unattended installs, I believe there's a KB article on the VMWare site.

Yes. I have made my changes with the transform. and the KB articles are useless on VMware to embed the key. They are all command line installation howto's. Nothing about the table values that require changing.

In the VM VI Client, it uses a property called ISX_SerialNUM. But in VMWare Server it uses one called SerialNumber.
You need to check the dialog inside your package to figure out the property name.
