Task sequence Windows 7 using MDT. PLEASE HELP!!

Hello AppDeploy/...now ITNinja. I need help, I have a project due ASAP. I need to use Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010 to configure a deployment task sequence that automatically deploys a Windows 7 image and migrates user data from old PCs running Windows XP to Windows 7. I need to email the deliverables (as follows):

1. MDT TS.xml file
2. MDT configuration file (the ini file)
3. Unattend.xml
4. USMT migration file
5. Command line for Sysprep

If you message me, I'll email you my phone number and you can call me at your convenience or I can call you. I really would APPRECIATE ANY HELP, thank you for reading.

Wow that sounds like a big order... Do you know what time of customization and what data your migrating. You'll also get more responses if you post some of your work. This is a great community, but usually when you present something to start with, we're more eager to help :)

  • Thank you soooo much for your response. I haven't been able to get past the deployment. This is a scenario where 5000 machines exists. Please find that information below.
    REQUIREMENTS

Requirements: 1. Configure MDT to install the Windows 7 operating system
    2. Configure MDT to install a mandatory application for all PCs being deployed (any application will do)
    3. Configure MDT to restore the USMT user data from a network location called \\Server1\UserData\OldPCName
    4. Configure MDT to name the PC based on serial number (i.e. if serial number is RT656BC then PC name is RT656BC)
    5. Configure USMT migration rules to INCLUDE all data in a folder on the root of C: called C:\DellMigrate and INCLUDE file extensions “abd†and “xyz†from anywhere else on the C: drive
    6. Configure USMT migration rules to EXCLUDE all data in a folder on root of C: called C:\DellExclude and EXCLUDE file extensions “mno†and “qst†from anywhere else on the C: drive
    7. Configure Unattend.xml file to set the time zone to Eastern time for all PCs and to set the local Administrator password to “Password1#â€
    8. Provide the command line you would execute to Sysprep the Windows 7 image before capturing the image.

Scenario: XYZ is a financial institution with over 5,000 employees. They are migrating to Windows 7 and have contracted with Dell to automate their deployment for 150 loan officers.

Use Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010 to configure a deployment task sequence that automatically deploys a Windows 7 image and migrates user data from old PCs running Windows XP to Windows 7.

When I first explored WIndows 7 deployment this video tutorial was extremely helpful and accurate. I used the knowledge gathered in this video to evolve my own solutions.

  • Keep in mind migrating for 32bit to 64bit is not possible with USMT - Trinity 12 years ago
