SSD Upgrade on MacBook Pro. Will it boost the performance?

My MBP hard drive is old so planning to upgrade to a 500 GB SSD.  Expecting to get a good performance boost. Any recommendations or tips for SSD upgrade?

SSD upgrade is possible the best hardware update to get on Mac. It also comes over your budget as to what SSD you are going to have it on Mac. I would recommend you having the SSD with a decent storage size. And yeah, do backup all your data before you upgrade the MBP to a SSD.

Don't buy a crap SSD (;

Make sure it Mac compatible SSD, get a Samsung - they seem to be pretty hot right now with insane IOPS.

What out for Single Sided SSD issues - ie you might need to get a single sided ssd because your mac book needs the super slim type. Normal SSDs have chips on both sides.

  • Agreed, easiest way to upgrade would be to buy it from OWC: https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/ssd/owc - jknox 7 years ago
