Should installer run for each profile on a computer?

08/20/2020 117 views

I have noticed that the msi does a config step for each person that logs into a machine.  Is this normal or is there a step in the setup that can avoid this and just install for all users on a given computer?

  • Usually, the setup is a default for all users. What exactly are you trying to install? Maybe you haven't configured the install switches for that software correctly
    • There are no switches to configure for this piece of software that would relate to installing per user rather than globally. The installer itself just runs and is there for all users.
  • What is the software you are installing? Each installer can behave differently. An MSI install by itself should not install for each person on log in, but an MSI installer can be called to do that from a different process (such as a program launching may install a prerequisite to the user).
