Problem with silent install on custom MSI

I created a basic MSI, all it has is some Files in a folder and a shortcut to run the java app. Now if i install the msi normally with the interface everything is fine. If i try to install it quietly with /qb- the shortcut does not get created nor does the Add/Remove entry. Is this something with the sequence, does the quiet install not use the installation sequence? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

After some digging it looks like it installs fine quietly as long as I do it from the local user, If i try to push it through Altiris with a default system account or the altiris account the problem comes up. Any idea?

Did you install it per-machine (which doesn't sounds like it)?
Set the ALLUSERS property to 1 and try again.

If not then enable the Windows Installer Logging policy and set it to verbose (ex. voicewarmvupx).
Then check for any clues in the log (C:\WINDOWS\Temp\MSIxxxxx.LOG).

I think your initail suspicion about sequencing was right. Check the MSI log as Kim suggests but for *both* scenarios. I think it's likely that there are Custom Actions which are only set to run in the UI sequence.
