Patch status stuck on Verifying

I've deployed patches to 3 windows machines and their patch status has been stuck on 'Verifying' for well over an hour.
Any ideas why?

  • What do you have selected for patch detection? In a Detect and Deploy patching job, it detects missing patches, installs some it finds as missing, reboots, and that's when it gets to the Verifying stage. Verifying is re-detecting to see what other patches are still needed. If you haven't limited the patch detection scope, it will take a long time to detect all those thousands of patches.

If you are detecting all patches, it can take more than an hour.
