Packages fail because PC takes updates durring install

Most of these are .exe packages created with wise 9. Most of the MSI are smart enough to wait their turn.
The package work fine by themselves. if an packaged sent by SMS gets interupted with WSUS updates, the package loses. Sometimes updates have already occured and the machine is in a pending reboot stage, and the msiexec cannot be used until reboot.

Has anyone come up with any tricks/check to better check either for pending reboots, WSUS updating or just block updates durring deployment?

Have your package stop the update service before installing and restart it afterwards. Obviously, your package needs to check that the service actually stopped and restarted so I'd recommend using a robustly-coded script, rather than the ServiceControl table.
