Normally I would install an MSI something like this:

msiexec.exe /i \\server\volume\path\something.msi

But let's say the \\server\volume changes based upon location?

So I set a system variable on the XP workstation for something like:
INSTALLABC=\\server\volume

But it seems you can't then do:

msiexec.exe /i INSTALLABC\path\something.msi

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

Do I need to reference the variable differently somehow?

Below should be correct
msiexec.exe /i %INSTALLABC%\path\something.msi

however; I would point to a DFS share instead.

Is a better way.

You install the msi local and add your DFS-Share to msi sourcelist.

commadline:
msiexec /i "c:\temp\abc.msi" SOURCELIST="\\abc\abc"
