Hello All,

I have captured setup of files and created MSI package.
At the time of install .MSI prompts to close few running applications, but business doesnt accept to close the apps(as setup.exe doesnt prompt).

Can someone guide me please?

  • Hi,

if you are sure that this step (closing applications) is not needed you may try with disabled Restart Manager - MSIRESTARTMANAGERCONTROL=Disable.
This prompt shows up when MSI detects that file is locked by some application.

You can read sth more about it on:
  • Have you examined a verbose MSI installation log?
  • does it sound like an expected issue??? is your app working with other apps, if so it is fair enough for the handy dialogue requesting that apps are closed.

What kind of Setup was it? If it was a legacy application that uses NON-Embedded MSI's then capturing is ok. However, there might be alot to cleanup with your MSI so that its not trying to write to in-use files. Which is probably why your being prompted to close running apps.
