You have to create a dummy component in your feature that has a registry keypath under hkcu and contains your test, dat

Hi Pewi,

If the component which installs test.dat and has a unique HKCU registry key as it's keypath then the MSI would selfheal when you click the adverstised shortcut...

Have you validated your MSI?

Cheers,
Rob.

Hi Pewi,

Is a repair taking place at all?

This document shows how a repair functions. Perhaps, if you follow the diagram step by step, it will allow you to figure out why it doesn't.
