Missing Assets

Good Morning,

We have 194 users in our environment, and roughly 215+ computers. All of our active computers show up under the inventory, but only 170 computers show up in the Asset tab. I have been tracking this over the last month, and all of our computers have checked in since then, but the assets do not appear. I assumed that any computer with the Agent installed would create an Asset record in the Asset tab.

We are running version 5.3.47927 of the server, and we have only been using KACE since Dec 2011. Is this a bug? Or are the Agents configured wrong?

Thanks in advance.

You are correct. When you install a agent, it will also create an asset for it. Over time you may end up with more assets for computers then what is in Inventory. Do you know if anyone went in there and deleted any computer Assets that are retired or not in service?

It is possible that someone has deleted the assets that aren't showing up - there are 4 administrators. If that's the case and they were deleted, is there a way to "Force" all clients to recreate their asset is it's missing?

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to manually add the assets, if possible. Thanks!

Try deleting one of the machines from inventory.

When it checks back in, it should recreate the asset.

Make sure you only test on 1.

That worked, after the agent checked back in, the asset was recreated - I figured there might be a simple solution.

Off the top of your head, is there any history, or log information that we would lose when deleting a computer out of inventory?
I seem to remember losing more than Helpdesk ticket information, but I don't care about that because we aren't using the Helpdesk yet.

Thanks for both of your help.
