Minor Upgrade doubts!!!

[font="trebuchet ms"]Hi,
[font="trebuchet ms"]
[font="trebuchet ms"]I am required to create a Minor Upgrade for my application. I have some doubts in creating a Minor Upgrade.
[font="trebuchet ms"]I was have some exp in creating SMALL update with PCP file.
[font="trebuchet ms"]
[font="trebuchet ms"]This is my scenario:
[font="trebuchet ms"]1. We already had 2 releases of our application: 4.2 and 4.3. Now we have fixed some bugs and was asked to create a patch with the fixes. This patch should target both 4.2 and 4.3.
[font="trebuchet ms"]2. So, we decided to go for Small Update on 4.3 and Minor Upgrade on 4.2.
[font="trebuchet ms"]3. I created a Small Update for 4.3 with PCP file and seems to be working fine.
[font="trebuchet ms"]4. I now required to create Minor Upgrade for 4.2.
[font="trebuchet ms"]5. But the product codes are different for 4.2 and 4.3 release of my application(Believe this should not have been done, as the guy who worked before me did that)
[font="trebuchet ms"]
[font="trebuchet ms"]My doubts:
[font="trebuchet ms"]1. Can a Minor Upgrade be created from PCP file?
[font="trebuchet ms"]2. From Googling, i read that Minor Upgrades can be created from Upgrades section under Media in the ism file. There i can find an option like 'Add Minor Upgrade Item'. Pls let me know if adding an entry will create a patch(minor)?
[font="trebuchet ms"]3. Will the Product code change between the different versions affect my patch??
[font="trebuchet ms"]
[font="trebuchet ms"]Pardon me, if i have missed something.
[font="trebuchet ms"]
[font="trebuchet ms"]Thanks for the help...

Í am not sure if my anwer will help you but there are many ways of creating minor upgrades / minor upgrades etc...
but do you really want to manage all these things... ( depending if you are a repackager or developer.....)

Why not creating a major upgrade that contains upgrade information for both versions.
You can even use conditions to make it easier...
this means that you only have to maintain one version from then on...

Thanks for the suggestion.

But, the product sponsors are much cncerned with another release, as they have released 4.3 in recent past.
Also, for Major upgrade, do we need to have the installer as a whole(meaning, will the installable be a CD image, not like an msp file)?

So, it'd be better if we have a single msp file(minor upgrade).

Any suggestions??

the fact you changed the product code on the first update makes it a Major upgrade i believe.

I am not aware of it being possible to have a single MSP that works across two different products. The earlier mistake has caused this issue.

have a read of this relating to upgrades the last bit being pertinent to your case.

[font="trebuchet ms"]Hi John,

[font="trebuchet ms"]You are right. Instead of doing a Minor Upgrade from 4.2 to 4.3, they have done a Major Upgrade by changing the Product code.
[font="trebuchet ms"]
[font="trebuchet ms"]Is there any workaround for this ??

Build a stub/package to uninstall the old and install the new. Trying to fix things up is the road to Hell.

As usual I am with Ian on this. I dont see any way to get a single patch for both products.
