Maintaining System Images/ Source Media?

So I have more than a few system images and scripted installations available now on my K2000. Now I need to sort out the best way of keeping this images updated.

How do you do it?

Do you pull the images down, update them, and then push them back up? Do you keep the images static, and then use the K1000 or other such method to update windows and applications?

Personally I've always tried to keep my images rather trim and then use postinstall tasks for all of the flex-items like software. But where a "fat image" is your need I recommend capturing a pre-sysprepped version for a restore point; and a post-sysprep version for deployment. FWIW.
