Label Group instead of label

I am pretty new at this, but somehow, on our K1000, I created a label group instead of a label and it is applied to 844 users. How do I either change this from a group to a label OR how do I remove all of the users from this label group so that I can delete it? I hope I don't have to go one by one through 844 users to remove them.

  • A label group is only a container for labels and it is not possible to assign a 'label group'' to an object.
You can remove the label from the group or delete the label group from the Label menu if you wish. - StockTrader 9 years ago

As StockTrader commented, Label Groups are are just a way to organize label by types (i.e., Patch Labels, Machines Labels, Software Labels, etc). Labels are assigned to Label Groups which are typically picked during the creation of a Label or Smart Label. When your looking at your label list, you can "View by" a specific label group. I use a naming convention for my labels that shows the label type in the name so I don't use this feature too much but it's nice to have.

Labels are assigned to the individual inventory objects like your users, machines and patches. Smart Labels use custom queries to determine what they are assigned too. Manual Labels are applied manually meaning you select each item you want to belong to a certain label.

If your K1000 is still new and you haven't done too much configuration then it might not hurt to just start fresh. Remove/delete the label and the mystery label group that was created and start over.

Have you checked out any of the KKE's (Kace Kontinuing Education)? This one is a about "Grouping Your Gadgets". Maybe it will be useful!
