Kbox Hardware vs Virtual Question.
So our Kbox 1 and 2000 are up for a hardware refresh and we are having a hard time deciding to just go with the virutal option instead of getting dedicated appliances. Other then cost is there any differences between the choices? has anyone run into issues going from Hardware to virtaul for the kboxes? what about performance etc. Then what about Support when going to virtual? migration process etc. Any feed back would be much appreciated

The main difference is: physical means: one appliance instead of a VM. VM is more flexible, the physical appliance is more powerful (esp. much more hard disk space)
How to go to virtual?
The same like you change the physical against a physical box:
You need at first:
a tested and working backup outside of the appliance. The backup strategies differ in both appliances.

the version number of the appliance you want to retire.
_THIS_IS_IMPORTANT!_
Then shutdown the old appliance.
Boot up the new one and configure it initially (License, IP etc)

Bring it to the same software level as your old appliance had (you cannot restore a database to a different software level, esp. no 5.5.90545 to 6.3.113397, even to 5.5.90546 would fal!)
Restore backup to the appliance.
This will reboot the appliance.
Some things will be done automaticly (download of the patches in the K1000, since patches are not part of the backup)

The tech specs say at least 4 CPU cores and 4GB of RAM, but I'd recommend following the specs for the physical devices as close as possible based on the number of client machines you have.
