K1000 Patching: Don't create desktop and start menu shortcuts

Hi,

I would like to know if it's possible to configure the K1000 Appliance to not create desktop and start menu shortcuts when applying patches? In my case when the Mozilla Firefox patches are appied it always creates a Public desktop shortcut and a Public start menu shortcut.

  • We ran into the same thing on our end with Firefox. We have a fully customized installation of FF and when we enabled patching on the K1, we quickly discovered that it's just doing a default install which overrode all of our customizations. We had to just disable patching of FF and will have to handle it manually through Managed Installs and Smart Labels. - BHC-Austin 9 years ago
    • Same for me with Java. I do still patch Flash bur have the mms.cfg file in place to prevent auto-update. - rockhead44 9 years ago

Thank you for the reply but if I defined a smart label to detect, download and install automatically the patches I cannot personnalize the installer... or I don't know how.

I appreciate that the automation aspect of these devices and similar deployment mechanisms has its appeal but eventually you will learn the folly of allowing vendors loose on your workstation estate.
