K1000 Inventory - Change Asset Type?

I managed to inventory my printers agentlessly via SNMP scan. However, the K1000 marks them as standard asset type "computer", they should be of the type  "printer".
Can I change the asset type afterwards or maybe choose which one to use in the inventory process?

Inventory will mark everything as a computer and I have yet to see any option to move assets around. If you have common fields between computer and printer assets you can export the ones you want, delete them, then import them to a printer asset. If your asset points to another asset (Location or department for example) make sure every printer you import has the location filled out or else it will create a bunch of blank location assets.
I would recommend doing assets manually or via Excel for anything other than computers.

Alternatively if you are good with MySQL and have some way of distinguishing the printer assets from the computer assets you can probably create a ticket rule that will move those for you. Just be careful since writing a bad MySQL query can cause data corruption and system instability.

  • Thanks for the quick answer.

Automatic agentless provision is more convenient that's why I wanted to use it. Manually creating assets seems to be the better choice atm. - it@aps 9 years ago
