Joining K1000 to domain creates hostname-HTTP user account

11/29/2014 1880 views

When I join the K1000 to the domian it also creates an account with its hostname and -HTTP at the end.  They are both created in the Computers container in AD.

Do I need to do anything special with the hostname-HTTP account?  We have a policy that forces all passwords to expire every 120 days so I am wondering if this is an issue?

  • we have a ou named service accounts that we create or move machine created accounts like this to. That OU is exempt from our 90day expiration rule.
    • We just saw this user in our system - what exactly is it for?
  • Where would we update this password if we needed to change this for audit purposes? Also, if we just updated the password, will it break anything?
