Is it possible to get a backup dump of the Kace database

How can I take a backup dump of the Kace database?  I would like to be able to import this database backup to some other server so that I can run reports against the external database.

  • You can connect to KACE DB using any external mysql client and take backup - AbhayR 7 years ago
    • What command do you use to connect remotely to take backup? I was trying mysqldump with the report account, but it was saying that it does not have access - tuyen 7 years ago
  • if you aren't sure out to connect, this is a little old but the method hasn't changed.

  • My question was about getting the backup of the whole database. I know how to remotely connect to the database already, and I am using that method to run remote queries against the Kace database. I was asking about how we can take the database on the Kace appliance and put it on another machine. - tuyen 7 years ago

For read-only access (i.e. only running reports), follow the suggestions in the comments. If you want to test SQL that will alter the db, then exporting the db is a good idea (even better is to have a test/dev instance... but I digress). To get a db dump, download the incremental ("incr") backup file in Settings > Control Panel > Backup Settings (this file is huge and contains a bunch of other KACE resources).

  • Hi, I tried looking at the backups and I untarred the incremental backup and found what does look like the whole database itself. How do I import this into another computer to use ? - tuyen 7 years ago
    • Hmmm... I don't know, actually. I'm guessing you can google to find an explanation for expanding a similar db. - JasonEgg 7 years ago

[insert my usual "I know nothing about Kace" disclaimer] Wouldn't you handle this exactly the same way as any MySQL database?
