InstallTailor Vs Raw Transform?

I keep hearing conflicting comments about which is the prefered meathod of Transforming a vendor install with Wise Package Studio. Half of the people tell me to use Install Tailor because it captures things that you are likely to miss if you work with a RAW mst, and the other Half say to just create a raw mst from a template because it is cleaner.

Any suggestions, or official references?

Thanks as always!

When you create/generate a transform using InstallTailor or through WPS's Windows Installer Editor there will be Wise related tables and table entries added to the transform that may not be appropriate for a vendor MSI. Using ORCA to create a (raw) transform will "always" be cleaner as it is you who decide what goes into the transform or not.

You can still use InstallTailor to generate a transform for you and then use ORCA to remove any entry that is not suitable for this package.

It is a choice per individual.
Most cases it's faster to let InstallTailor generate the transform for you instead of going through all dialogs in the MSI and try to find out which properties are used while configure the package through the different dialogs.

If you know exactly what to change then hey, why not use ORCA to do that as it is abit quicker IMO.

I hreally couldn't begin to total up the number of MSTs I've created with InstallTailor. As Kim says, it is MUCH faster and, if the purist in you (or your QA folks) doesn't like the Wise tables, edit them out. Orca is for quick fixes only, really, unless you're a dyed-in-the-wool masochist [waits for flames from Orcaphiles...]

Personally, I have never used Orca. I use Wise Package Studio 100% of the time for every need. I am assuming that Orca pretty much creates a Raw transform in the same way WPS does (In Windows Install Tailor - File - New - Other Templates - Transform)

I am sure though however that Orca is much cheaper :D But hey I work for Corporate America so that they can give me these expensive tools :P

Anyhow, I am curious as to what Wise Tables you are suggesting be deleted, and seriously is there a reason to remove them rather than just let them stay in the transform?

As far as Install Tailor is concerned, do any of you find that there are packages that were handled better by it, enough to recommend it as a default of sorts?

Not so much handled better by it, but for use of use, Installtailor is simple.
I have found on occasion that sometimes you cannot use Installtailor to create transforms with a vendor MSI. Orca then comes to the rescue. But 99% of the time I use installtailor because it is quicker and easier.
