Hi all,

Another packaging question.  I have a .exe that I extracted and when installing the MSI, it shows up in add/remove programs, but doesnt looks like its fully installed on the machine like when I run the exe.  any advice is appreciated.

  • Log the installation verbosely and check that all the features you expect to be installed are installed.

Then do a comparison using the EXE (keep logging enabled). I expect that the EXE is passing the feature list to MSIExec, something which the log will show you. - anonymous_9363 9 years ago
  • Also check the INSTALLLEVEL property as this also can control which features get installed. - EdT 9 years ago
  • Silly question, but did it just extract the one MSI? Did it extract anything else, possibly VC++ tools? Have you cleared the logs, run the exe, then checked the logs again to see if it installs anything else? - alphabeta 9 years ago
