I would like to have Kace email me if a specific computer restarts(or misses a heartbeat)

We have a small windows 10 computer that is only used to play music through Spotify for our patient waiting room. Recently it has been restarted by a "User" :-) at random times on misc days. I would like to have Kace send me an email if the computer is restarted (or misses a heartbeat) so I know when I need to log into it and restart the play list.

Thank you ahead of time for any help.

Hi,

You could create a notification task that runs every 30-60minutes minimum to send an email alert, then head to reporting you can setup a device notification schedule task, and in the filter for that you would use device name and agent connected is false and set how often you want the KACE SMA to run the task.

Also... to tackle the real issue, Go to User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar and look for Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands, and run that policy against that device.

Now... if he's good enough, he will find a way to reboot or restart the device.... but at least not from the Start Menu.

Comments:
  • could I set it to only email me if there was a device connection error in the last 60 minutes?

I thought about doing that for a second, but unfortunately they are one of the higher ups and I wouldn't want to rock that boat.

Thank you for the help :-). - Snichols@sco.edu 4 years ago
    • I guess you could... but I believe a custom SQL report is going to be needed for that. - Channeler 4 years ago
