HP ScanJet G4010 silent install
Hey all,
I've been looking around on Google and I can't find the switches needed to do this. So I thought I'd ask here... :)
I am trying to do a silent install of the HP ScanJet G4010 software package. Downloaded from HP website, the filename is "setup_full_G4000_3.exe"
And I've found that I can use -s to do a silent install - however it shows the install progress interface, which I don't want it to be displayed. Then at the end, a registeration box pops up. Again, don't want it displayed.
It looks like it's an 7z Setup SFX package. When extracted, there are hundred (or thousand) of files in there, none will help me to install it silently using .msi method.
Apart from -s - is there any other switches that I can use to make it even more sliently?
Thanks,

To remove the registration pop-up at the end of the install :
Use something like 7-zip to extract the contents of the package
The root folder should have a file called Autorun.inf
Open this file in a text editor and do a search for WebReg.msi
This will be under a heading of [MSI.Webreg]
A couple of lines under this, you will see a line that says : SkipIfSilent = No
Change this to Yes.
Now to run the install run "HPZstubs.exe /S"
This still shows the progress bar, but it is all completely automated and none of that annoying registry stuff is installed. (The registration shortcut however will still be in the start menu (but won't be functional), but you can remove this shortcut with a script if you want).

further - if you need to set some default scanning options there will be a file in c:\users\%username%\appdata\local\hp\digital imaging\5590.xml
make all of your changes, and then distribute this file along with your silent install. - schkorpio 12 years ago -

Seems this have been discussed on previous threads (not same model, but I would think the installers are similar)

I especially like Nick's comment about the part to extract the driver and install that with dpinst.

nheim
are we talking about the driver package (1.6 MB) or the the hole software all the HP crap inside (167MB ??!!) ?
The driver package is a done with dpinst and a plain setup stub, which can easily unpacked with tools like 7zip.
This should be installable from deployment solution, out of the box. If not, look up the dpinst docu at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff544842%28VS.85%29.aspx
If you really need some apps from the full package, unpack it with 7zip and just install the needed SW. All those SW comes as separate MSI packages.
Regards, Nick

Thanks andemats - I searched on the HP website again and found the basic one - setup_basic_G4000_3.exe and is 1.6MB. I will give it a go, but I think the user do require the HP Photosmart Essential software. I'll pick apart the setup_full_G4000_3.exe file and see if I can extract the specific software.
Cheers
