how to put an installscript into an msi

does anyone know how to put an installscript into and msi not an ism.
Is there any way of creating a dll with your installscript in it so that you can then include this into an msi and use the functions the dll

I have a vendor msi that i need to customise the installation of. I can only use installscripts but this is only avaible in the ism's .

I think this post probably belongs in the pacakge development forum ... and more information would help a lot - what are you using to develop your msi? What application is it that you are doing?

To the best of my knowledge to create installshield scripts you need one of the Installshield msi authoring products, and even then its not part of the msi standard, you need to isntall isscript.msi for the client to parse the installshield script. I try and avoid installshield scripting like the plague.

i am using developer 9. i cannot use vb script due to micrsoft and there stupid service pack 2 breaking them all, i just need to write a script to copy out files from a previous version before the new install of the update of the app.as i only have a vendor msi the functionality to create install scripts is not available.
i think i wil try and convert it back to an ism and hope that all works out
