How to get K2000 post installation tasks to run properly?

Hello, I have been using the K2000 to deploy system images to various different systems. Recently we have decided to also have it install software as a post installation task instead of doing it ourselves. We are running into an issue where the software will install correctly but the task sequence shows "failed task sequence, Error unknown" and stops. This forces us to have to hit "resume task execution" to keep it going and to finish the deployment. Is there something that can be done about this or is there a proper way to install software after a system image deployment? It is currently being done through a post installation task by simply uploading the .exe with the proper command line to execute it silently. Thank you

I know this is a year old, but I am happy to say that in 8.2.158 release of SDA we have implemented Windows Expected Return Codes which allow a user to enter a code on the task detail page other than 0 for success.

If the installation is successful, then it should return an exit code of 0. I have seen cases where the application installs but doesn't return an exit code of 0 and this will cause the SDA to show that as an error. In those cases I use a batch script to execute the installer and then exit 0.

  • It returns an error code of 2 but it does successfully install the software as verified by opening/using the software after deployment is complete. The annoying part that i am trying to resolve is the issue where KACE/K2000 thinks it failed during deployment, when in fact it didn't, and stops the deployment process. We have to manually tell it to continue with the deployment for it to finish. Do you have an example of the batch script you are using? Where do you store the files for the batch script to execute the program from? - ERalee 4 years ago
  • I created a very simple one to use but the issue I'm running into now is the ability to direct it to the exe file location. I only have network shares that are password protected. Is there one within KACE that I could use for this purpose? Sorry I am still new to KACE and learning - ERalee 4 years ago
