How do I repackage an enviroment variable?
I need to repackage an environment variable,
The variable name is: XXX_LICENSE_FILE
Variable value is: "the path to the license server"
I have never done this before and hope that someone can give me any suggestions.

Why on earth would you want the complication of a package, simply to set an environment variable? Or is the setting of the variable part of an application package? If the latter, the main authoring tool vendor's programs (Wise and InstallShield) have an interface to access/create the variables. If you're not using either of those, you need to edit the 'Environment' table.
Information about that table is available on MSDN http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa368369(VS.85).aspx as is most of anything else you'd need to know about Windows Installer/MSI.
