Having problems installing Lync 2013 on windows 7

The users are downloading the installer from K1000 software libery. It downloads fine but close to the end of the install I get this error (Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper Has stopped working). It does not do this on every computer, but it does seem to be happen more often then just a one time problem

Microsoft helped us fix the issue here was the fix.

Suspected Cause:

·         A combination of third party interference and a corrupted repository.

Action Plan:

·         Disable Anti-virus is any.The only anti virus you should have is Symantec, if you have any others installed I will uninstall them.

·         Stop the office services and rename OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform folder from below location:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform.

  • Worked for us on Windows 7 trying to install Lync 2013 alongside Office 2010. Our older machines show this issue, new clean machines don't. Spent way too much time trying literally dozens of other solutions for this bootstrapper error. Tried renaming Microsoft help files, renaming appcompatflags in reg, Office repairs, different profiles, monkeying with task schedulers. Also found that the full Office 2013 install showed the same issue so this would have been a huge headache in the future when we get to the Office 2010 upgrades (can't do the full Office just yet). Uninstalling 2010 wasn't an option in our environment. Thanks! - JackBella 10 years ago
