Fatal Error During Installation: Java Removal

I've encountered a problem whilst trying to uninstall Java(TM) 6 Update 13...

I go into Control Panel\Add/Remove Programs and scroll down to remove Java from my system. I click remove and it comes up with the window "Add or Remove Programs: Are you sure you want to remove Java(TM) 6 Update 13 from your computer".
I click yes and it says "Preparing to remove"
then configuring java.. and then come up with the window:"Fatal Error During Installation"

I've tried enabling logging.. it didn't work.. so that's all the info I can give, I have two HD's mounted.. if that helps.. I don't know. I tried using the install again.. it didn't work believe it or not [>:]. Anyway please help

I've tried enabling logging.. it didn't work

What does that mean?
no log was created or you didn't find any useful information in the log why it fails?

No log was created. Do you know if I can use my iPod to patch the corrupted files by putting java on my iPod? Or.. since java's alread written to my registry.. can I use my use the java on my iPod (6 update 13 [OS:Windows]) as my default java? because that may very well fix my problem entirely.

Run the microsoft MSI Cleanup Utility and remove traces there... the install should then work.

you might want to look into the machine's eventlog for a bit more information on the error. there should be an entry providing you with, if nothing else, the exact exit code for the msi uninstall.

Another option is to lookup the uninstallstring for the product in the registry (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<productcode>) and run this manually, adding a parameter \L*V <path to log file>. This will give you an extensive log of the uninstall.

Hope this helps,

PJ

You are right, but if you can get ahold of the tool, it gets the job done. Quite a shame they aren't still making it available.

After running the Microsoft cleanup The install went flawlessly. Prior to that I spent hours with no results.
