Error 1406 When installing the 9.5.5 update for Adobe Acrobat 9.2 Pro

I get update failed, error 1406 when I try and update Acrobat 9 Pro beyond 9.3.0.   I tried the large update that takes Acrobat from 9.2 to 9.5.5 and also tried the individual updates.  Any ideas on what I can try?  I am running the latest Windows 10 Pro version on a Dell Optiplex 9010 PC.

It mentions trying to remove old versions (may not be want you want) and also setting permissions for this registry key.

The OS is a little dated on this but it should still follow the same basic methods.

  • Currently I have updated to 9.3, which seems to be the last update before I get that error. So should I try and install the later updates until I get the error and then follow your suggestion or go ahead now and check and change the permissions?
  • I would check the permissions after each upgrade
