Does turning down the security level in Java make you more at risk?

We have a website that customers visit and the only way to get it to work correctly is to turn down Java Security Level to Medium. Does this put us at risk if we lower the level?

Yes it does, but if you upgrade to v51 you can add those sites to java's trusted list
