I need to deploy a software through K2000 based on  Processor architecture ( x86 and x64 base msi files). What is the best way to do it ?

I have created bat file and its working if I execute it manually. Is there any possibility to upload the bat file with source files ( setup files) to K2000 and install the software with Windows deployment using it?

Appreciate your support on this.

Yes, this is certainly possible. Select all of the installation source files and compress them to a zip. It is best to do this by selecting all of the files, right click, Send to, Compressed (zipped) folder. Be sure to select the files/folders themselves, if you compress the folder containing all of the files that folder will be part of the archive and that tends to mess things up.

Upload the zip archive to the post-install task.

Specify the name of your batch file for the parameters.

  • Thanks lot for your quick response. Not sure am I on correct page. I couldn't find any option to upload file ( zip folder) under new bat script. ( On post installation tasks page I have selected new bat file). Apriciate your further support on this.)
    • Yeah, even though you are running a batch script you need to create an application post-install task. That part is a little confusing.
      • Thanks lot for your response. Do you have any sample example for this or any other easy way to achieve this ? Appreciate your help since I am new to this product.
  • I did the following .

copied ClientSetup.msi files into the zip
Created a batch file named ClientSetup.bat and copied it to the zip folder. ( Bat file working perfectly if I executed it locally on command prompt as Administrator)

    Post-installation Tasks--> Choose Action--> Add Application…

    Runtime Environment: Windows
    Upload File: My_Source Files.zip
    Parameter: ClientSetup.bat

Unfortunately I get following error when it installing through K2000.
Error : "this installation package could not be opened"
    Appreciate your help on this.
    • Based on your wording, I'm not sure how exactly you created the zip file. The recommended process is:
      Create a new folder
Place all of the installation files in that folder
Place your clientsetup.bat in that folder
Select all of the files in that folder, right click, Send to, Compressed (zipped) folder.
Name the zip file appropriately and avoid spaces

When you get the error during deployment open a command prompt or explorer window and check c:\kace\applications folder. There should be a folder named for the post-install tasks ID (which you can find in the URL when you edit the task). Open that folder and make sure that the contents of your zip file were extracted.
