Creating WPS Macros

Hi All,

I'm looking to create some macros in Wise package Studio but don't really know where to start. What I'd like is to create a macro whic hwhen run populates the MSI with certain entries. I'd like to configure about 10 or so registry entries and the same in the Property table.

Does anyone know of any resources or templates that are available? I've searched Google and Altiris but not really cam up with anything.

Cheers.

Reading between the lines it sounds like you want to add the registry entries and some property/value pairs to all your projects? If so, why not add them to a copy of the 'Windows Application' template and set WPS to use that template instead of the default? I say to use a copy because updates will walk all over the installed ones, thus effectively removing your customisations. IIRC, to set the default template one needs to edit the Repackage.INI in the Wise Share point, possibly the %SystemRoot%\WisePSSC.INI, or possibly both.

Brian,

The subject of the Wise Macros and the Macro Editor has been a reoccurring topic of discussion on this and other forums. Despite this Symantec\Altiris\Wise has yet to produce any tangible support to this powerful tool set to the Wise packaging product.

My first suggestion would be for you to search this forum for the key words Macros and automation. This will yield several informative links to various resources on the web. Additionally for wise macro just use site:myitforum.com "Paul Teodorescu" wise macro as the search phrase in Google. There is a great starter macro there that will get you started quite well.

The Altiris forum http://forums.altiris.com/ should provide some support as well.

Good luck,

Thanks for the quick responses, much appreciated.

Templates sounds like a good first option to start with for "setup capturing" and creating your own MSIs. My understanding would be that you wouldn't be able to use that method in a vendor MSI when creating a transform though I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

I recall being on a client site and when we wanted to import our site/ specific Property and Registry table entries we ran the macro for doing so. It was very convenient [:)]

Some more googling for me!
