Cancelled Status stopping the spawn of child tickets for work flow process

I have a work flow process created for purchasing but we have instances that halfway through the process the client will cancel the purchase request. Is there a way to have a status of purchase cancelled and stop from spawning the remaining of the child tickets.
Currently if the process is cancelled you have to close all the child tickets.  I have tried using the rules wizard but can't seem to get what I want to work.
