Why dont you just repackage the software and inject the drivers using DPInst (or if you using Adminstudio/Installshield - use the internal function).

  • thanks for reply. actually to update drivers after installation of brady lable mark 5 application they have provided .exe. so is it better to repackage it and put in a script in order to post install? the sequence of installation is 1) brady lable mark 52)printer management add in 3) to update printer drivers run exe. - jay25oct 10 years ago
    • I would use DPInst, as they should be standard drivers that work with the driver framework. Guess you need to faff around with the exe to get the drivers out. I would suggest installing the drivers, then using driver genius to get them out (i havent used it for ages, but thats what I used to do - from there you can pick apart the MSI and get the drivers (since driver genius did the donkey work). Then thro them into DPinst.

You could script it at the end, more than one way to skin as cat they say. - rileyz 10 years ago
      • hi i tried every possible way to package this application. but neither repackaging works or it doesnt create any setup.iss. is there any other folder other than temp where msi will be exctracted.? - jay25oct 9 years ago

      • C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Downloaded Installations\

        {D8577A07-A0AF-4754-A28B-1385E0A54300} is main app
        {D931FB18-E0F5-4C19-B9D2-AA2DBEE28CC2} is the addin.

With both apps you can just use the silent MSI switches as per normal. I installed the main app and it looks OK, I cant install the addin cos I dont have Excel, but I had a look at the MSI and it looks in good shape (no weird stuff going on).

Dont forget to install the prereqs before the main app!

For the main app. Install it, start it - at this point use RegShot (its free) to take a reg and maybe app dir snapshot - enter the serial key and ok it - take second snapshot and compare to find where they key went. I suspect it wil be in the reg somewhere. Or if your lazy, just hunt around in the reg, keep in mind it might be doing some other stuff when registering the key.

After you know what changes were applied after the serial key was entered, you can create a transform to apply these on install with the main app. Hopefully when its licenced, it licensed globally - if not you have to do some fancy MSI stuff for per user licensing/propagating. (at this point youre probably breaking your licence agreement)

Good luck! Im too lazy to reply now, but you should have enough info to do this now. - rileyz 9 years ago
      • thanks. i will try it. its a single user license. - jay25oct 9 years ago
