Boot Order

Hi,
I have a Flash disk that contains WinPE.
My system first boots to the flash disk.
WinPE formats the disk, applies an image and restarts.
Thats all runs automatically.
What I am trying to do is that AFTER that restart, the new operating
system will load automatically (and not the flash disk).
Any advice, how can I perform that?
Thanks!

If its a newer PC, as a work around to that problem you can set your system BIOS boot order to opposite of what it does now. Have your HDD as first boot device and when the system boots you should have a press F12 for boot menu or similar text on screen. Press F12 and choose the UFD from the menu. Sometimes it is buried under Harddrive in the list of bootable options. This way you force the boot to UFD when you start the install process and are paying attention, and when PE restarts after the OS installs and you are not paying attention to the PC it will boot to the HDD and not the UFD. If installing Vista I know the unattend.txt can also be modified to shutdown after the PE phase.

Hi Amerit99,
Well, my system is fully automated and I cannot "be there" to press the F12.
Are you familiar with the bcdedit command?

I am. So are you applying the image to the HDD via imagex /apply or are you running through a complete Autounattend.xml setup each time? Is the goal to have your automation to the point that you to boot from the UFD, do your OS image, on reboot go to newly installed OS and then on every reboot from then on you reboot to the OS until you run a command to cause the machine to go back to the UFD and start the process all over?

Hi,
The goal of my system is an automatic testing system.
Currently, my system does the following:
1. System boots to Flash Disk with WinPE.
2. An image is applied automatically from Extended partition using ImageX.
3. Restart PC.
Those 3 steps run automatically and I want that after the 3rd step (Restart PC), it will load the OS that i have just applied.
I was thinking to format the flash disk after the OS applied but it is not a good solution for me.
Your last sentence is correct:
"...your OS image, on reboot go to newly installed OS and then on every reboot from then on you reboot to the OS until you run a command to cause the machine to go back to the UFD and start the process all over? "
That exactly what I am looking for!
Thanks,
Kfir
