Best method to track purchase dates on non Dell equipment

We're using the Kace 1000 software in a VM.  We have around 64 notebooks reporting in, some of which are not Dell based machines.  I have a SQL query built to show all machines with the chassis type of laptop, the Ship Date, and some other details required.  With the Dell notebooks that do call home, the Ship Date field is populated.  We're going on the assumption that this is the date that the notebook was put into service, not necessarily when Dell shipped us the notebook.  Either way, that date is accurate enough for us.

The problem with the non-Dell machines that are already out in the field, we have no Ship Date labeled, which is what we're looking to get rectified by manually entering the data based on records from finance or magic or fairies or smoke and mirrors or whatever, however, we're not able to find a mechanism that allows us to edit the Ship Date field.  Since I've only got R/O access to the MySQL database (Which is how I built my query ground up) I can't manually enter the relevant data.  Not to mention if a purchase of a new non-Dell notebook is made, I'm not sure the software is going to record the Ship Date/Purchase date.  I'm not the one that puts the machines out to pasture or put them in service, so I don't know the mechanisms to get the KACE client software to register with out central repo.

Does anyone have a recommendation (And procedure) on how we can add a field that is editable that will allow us to indicate when the machine was put into use?

I can build onto my SQL query to show the DELL_ASSET.SHIP_DATE if populated, and if not populated, show ASSET.PURCHASEDATE (or whatever the field could be) without any problem, but we're looking for a path of least resistance to edit the machines beginning of service.

Your best bet will be to create a custom field in the DEVICE Asset type as your procurement date, the get your Finance Fairies to fill in the shipped date in that field. That way even if the Device no longer reports inventory you will have a record of the date. It really is not worth trying to write to the main Inventory tables for this, do it all in Asset.
