Auto Documentation Tool?

Hi,

Last week someone demonstrated a new packaging application named PackagingRobot. The application has a feature Autodoc which automatically makes a complete documentation of your installation process. Each screen and information entered during the setup are stored and afterwards a Word document is generated.

Is there software available which can handle this? The feature from PackagingRobot is nice, but I am currently using WPS7 and it works fine. Only missing easy away to create documentation.

You could do that using Windows Installer's automation object model. It's not for the faint-hearted, given the nature of some of the table relationships, but perfectly do-able. Download the Platform SDK and take a look at the sample scripts therein. They would form a good base for such a tool.

its relatively easy to combine wise macros with Word.Application com objects to autogenerate documentation.

in the past I have setup bookmarks within the documents and push the values through into various locations using custom document properties.
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
