Allow Shockwave to silently autoupdate

Hi All,

Now I know this is going against the grain of usual enterprise deployments but due to the fact that Adobe Shockwave gets hit with updates and we're struggling to keep up with deployments.  Now I appreciate it's not as many as Flash but it's still frequent.


Therefore, we have decided to allow Shockwave to automatically update.  However we would like it to update in the background without any user intervention.

I am trying to find the relevant Reg keys to allow it to do so but I keep getting a pop-up asking if I want to update to the latest version.

Has anyone found the keys that will allow me to deploy a version of shockwave that will automatically update "silently" in the future?


Again I'm talking about Shockwave here......... not Flash.

Correct. SW will prompt you.

Personally, I steer clear of letting vendors loose on my clients' estates. Adobe in particular hasn't exactly covered itself in glory in the past with updates.

No, it doesn't. Maybe one day Adobe will do something about it, but since Flash is increasingly being binned by users due to the endless security issues, I would not be surprised to see both Shockwave and Flash die a death at some point.

To enable that to work, your users are going to require local admin rights. "Sub-optimal" is the word that comes to my mind.

So Shockwave doesn't work in the same way as Flash then, by which I mean the system account will run the scheduled task to check and then update it?
