Adminstudio 10

Hi,

Requirement is:
Need to capture pure 64 bit applications.

Tried Options:
1. Tried the latest version of wise package studio and not able to capture.
2. Using Installshield 2011(Adminstudio10) (Evaluation version), we are able to capture pure 64 bit apps. We are not able to craete a msi when we build the ism.
We are not getting any option in release wizard(already unchecked the setup.exe option).

So could you please help me out either any packaging tool which can support to capture 64 bit apps or is there any option in adminstudio 10 for creating msi when build ism.

Thanks & Regards,
Manjula M

I haven't deployed many 64-bit applications but, without exception, they have all been supplied in MSI or in MSI-embedded-in-an-EXE form.

Are you sure you haven't captured such an app?

Both WSP 8 and Admin Studio 10 have 64 bit support to some extent.

Some back ground information would be of help. What are you trying to package? Is there a vendor MSI?

AdminStudio is good in 64bit Repackaging.
As far as I know they are the only one who can do this..

do you have a valid copy of AdminStudio ( or an eval version?)
You can only created EXE with the eval version...

We have a evaluation version of Adminstudio 10 and to purchase the adminstudio, we need some information like:

Is there any option to build msi from ism and i am using evaluation version.

I am not able to create the msi when we build the ism , Please let me know is it only because i am using evaluation version?

yup the reason why you can't build an MSI without a wrapper is because you are using an evaluation version. it only creates MSI wrapped in exe even if you choose MSI only. If you purchase AdminStudio and not the eval version you can create MSI without wrapper.

One more thing if you try to install the one you made from the evaluation version it will prompt that you use evaluation version to package the application

The setup.exe files created from the Admin Studio eval version are just simple wrappers
which are extracting the msi in %temp% when you start the installation.

We use AdminStudio 10 and it works fine with 64 bit apps. But, as someone already said if it is a true 64 bit app then it came in a .MSI format, which means you don't have to repackage it. Just run the setup.exe, explode out the .MSI and then create your own .MST.

Thank u all for ur reply, I have one more question related to adminstudio. The requirement is like :

Need to run the background image (.bmp file) during the installation.
So could u please give some advice on this. How we can implement this using billboard settings in installshield.

Thanks in advance.

im not sure if i understand you correctly but i thingk you are talking about adding the .bmp file on the dialog during installation. You can edit the dialog to use your .bmp file during installation with installshield

Hi,
For the frist question, after capturing the application you will be provided with an .IRP under that you have option on Left hand side with the name Repackaged Output in that, Create a Windows Installer Package (.msi) after creating the Editor Project select the option & under drop-down you may need to select Create .msi file + external compressed .cab file.
This will try to create a .msi along with .ism in the Disk folder after compilation based upon your option selection. You can customize the .msi later as per your requirements.
Besides, I suspect that the reason for failing to create a .msi file is because of Trial version so.

For the second question, you have a option under dialogues but these are predefined one's. You CANNOT change these if your using AdminStudio; please read the below lines.
Dialog themes are available in Basic MSI projects.
Dialog themes are predefined sets of images that give your end-user dialogs a unified and distinctive look.
With the click of a button, you can select one of the available themes for your project, and InstallShield applies that theme to all of the interior and exterior dialogs, as well as the Setup.exe initialization dialog, in your project. You can easily preview each dialog from within the Dialogs view to see how it looks with the selected theme.

Note:InstallShield does not currently let you create your own dialog themes. Here themes is nothing but background image.
I believe you can add the image using the WPS. please check it out.

Thanks!

Hi all,

Need to check whether installscript or any other script editor is available in installshield which can generate exe and that exe must run outside the msi. Is it possible in installshield ?

Thanks & Regards,

You can call the .exe by writing a Custom Action with the option: Path referencing a Directory and give the relavant switches to execute the .exe
please note, you need hav silent switches to execute the setup.exe

Thanks,
