About merge modules.

Hi ¡¡¡
I am really noob with install shield:

I want to create msi that include various files in the package...
I think the good form to make this is
a)create merge module and later, add this merge module to the install shield project
b)create msi database.
I have 2 problems:

a)I create the merge module and this create a .msm file. I place this file in %programmfiles%\InstallShield\2009\Modules\i386...
In the project msi i go to "redistibutables" and in objects to display i select "merge modules" but i dont watch my merge module???? Why it dont appears?
b)If i create a msi database, i add the files but afther?? I can't compile, the buttons appears hidden... Waht is the next step¿
What is the best form a or b?
Thansks ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

Well, merge modules are designed for files which you might include in many projects: you wouldn't create one for a one-off MSI. So, if you have a set of standard DLLs which would be included with your company's projects, then using a MM to add them to your MSIs is a good idea.

Is that what you had in mind?

I want to create a msi.
This msi, make perms to a folders and remplace files in the destination computer.
These files are dll files, htm files etc...
I want to include thes files in the msi .

If i include the files in a merge module and after i add the merge module to the msi i think works but i can't watch the merge module in the "redistibutables objets" Why?

If you don't plan on using the files in other projects, forget about using them via a merge module. Why complicate things?

Because i need agree the files in the msi for can obtain independent msi...
I try to explain me:

I create the msi(new msi project and i build it), i need can separate it of the folders....

Example, i create msi project, i agree files and i buil it...
After, i execute the msi and it works fine from the original path, but if i move it of his originall path the msi dont find the files and crash...
Is for that i want add the files in the msi, for after can move the msi and can place the msi alone...

But im noob, i think for agree the files to the msi is necesarry create merge module(merge module= files to add) and after agree this merge module to the project msi...
Waht is the best practise to create this? Msi database??
I hope you understand me, i speak really bad english jeje.

regards.

- Forget merge modules for now. They are inappropriate for what you want.
- Search the InstallShield help file, as I suggested, for 'CAB' or 'compressed' files.
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
