why can't I view my desktop icons directly from the desktop yet can see them in Desktop folder in a Finder window?

I was facing the "other" Mac storage problem. it exceeded 100 gb, and my Mac started getting really hot doing very mediocre tasks, so I had to delete all the content of my disk from the disk utility and start all over again. after restarting my Mac and downloading all my folders off the cloud. I put some folders in the Desktop folder but I couldn't see nor access my folders from the desktop itself. I can't even click on any empty space on the desktop and see the word "Finder" in the menu bar as I used to. I'll upload a screen shot of my disk utility and probably a short video of my desktop because I might've not delivered the idea as it is because I'm not that smart in computers really. I hope someone could understand and help me. thanks.
