Note
Internet Explorer 4.x or higher must be installed before installing VMware. If IE is not there you don't get an error during installation, but the VMware Network Drivers will not be installed at all! (and the VMs will not have Network access) Windows NT 4.0 has only IE 2.x per default.

Note

This is a Windows Installer setup wrapped in a SETUP.EXE. Do not repackage this installation; use the MSI for automated installation from the command line, group policy or other deployment mechanisms. A transform file may be used to make any customizations desired.

Note
Some MSI Properties you can use for making a quieter install (use these in a transform or a command-line):

COMPANYNAME, USERNAME --> for registration info

SERIALNUMBER = ... --> serial number for quiet/silent installs *see below
ISX_SERIALNUM = ... --> for pre-populating the field in normal view mode

GOODSERIAL = 1 --> "pre-approves" the serial number so it doesn't have to prompt

DESKTOP_SHORTCUT = 0 --> does not install a shortcut on the desktop

RENAME_DISKS = 0 --> does not prompt for renaming old virtual disk image files

* If you want to use the /qb mode (quiet with progress box) for the install, populate the SERIALNUMBER property and change the condition to "Uilevel < 4" for the custom actions "VM_EnterSerialNumberSilent_SetDate" and "VM_EnterSerialNumberSilent"

I can't figure out an easier way to suppress the "VM_AskDisableAutorun" prompt except to change the condition on the Custom Action of the same name.

Note
Using Workstation 4.5.2:
To remove the "disable CD ROM autorun?" and the "Check for old Virtual machines?" questions on the install (even during silent install) I went in to the InstallExecuteSequence table and removed the VM_AskDisableAutorun and the VM_RenameDisks.

Also used the above suggestions to enter the serial number automatically.

Note

During the silent unistallation window with licenses appears. Use AutoIT script to click apropriate buttons and remove the license while uninstalling VMWare 4.x or 5.x silently.
