APPENDIX A - SAMPLE OF NEW SETUP.INI
APPENDIX B - SAMPLE OF OLD MGA.INI FILE

Introduction
The Setup program must be able to run in various conditions (in “silent mode” or “Batch” environment for OEMs, from a CD-ROM installation program, etc.). This flexibility is obtained by the use of switches specified as command-line parameters and/or in a configuration file. The command-line parameters are best suited to simple and general commands, while the configuration file is best suited to handle more complex situations. In all cases, the command-line switches override those specified in the configuration file.

Also, the Setup program must be able to show a nice and simple user interface to the user who wants to initiate his driver installation by this way (instead of the Windows Have Disk procedure). That interface will simply asks the user what is the language of the PowerDesk applets and properties pages. In that way, the Setup doesn't perform the installation itself, but call the INF procedure in silent mode.

On an other hand, the Setup utility is designed to install every Matrox board that are present in the computer and supported by the shipped drivers. In that way, the default switches used with the Setup program (specified below in the document) will affect the default parameters of all installed boards. If the user has changed some of the default (for example, through the PowerDesk's display pages), that information has been written in the Registry under the HKeyCurrentUser key and stays unchanged by the Setup.

Setup program's switches
In the following specifications, the "Configuration file" means the "Setup.ini" file. Also, the configuration file switches must be written under a section named "[SETUP]". See the "Setup program's initialization file" section for more information.

INF_FILENAME - INF filename specification
Used to specify the filename of the drivers' installation INF file. The value only contains the filename, without the complete path, as this file must be in the same directory than the Setup.exe file.

Command-line syntax: /INF_FILENAME="[INF filename]"
Short command-line syntax: /INF="[INF filename]"
Configuration file syntax: INF_FILENAME = [INF filename]

VERSION - Version of the package specification
Contains the string identifying the version of the current package. This information will be displayed "as is" to the user at Setup time.

Configuration file syntax: VERSION = [Version string]

LANGUAGE - Specify a language
Automatically selects, in the Setup language dialog, the specified language.

Command-line syntax: /LANGUAGE=[3 letters language ID]
Short command-line syntax: /LANG=[3 letters language ID]
Configuration file syntax: LANGUAGE = [3 letters language ID]

Note that the Language Wizard page will not be displayed if a valid language ID is specified. Thus, the user will have no way to change the language.

Here is the list of language IDs supported by the Setup application. However, the availability of those languages is specific to each Driver package.

EFIGS (I1) languages 3 letters ID
English ENG
French FRE
Italian ITA
German GER
Spanish SPA

International2 (I2) languages
Portuguese (European) EPO
Portuguese (Brazilian) BPO
Dutch DUT
Finnish FIN
Danish DAN
Swedish SWE
Norwegian NOR

Far-east languages
Chinese (Traditional) CHN
Chinese (Simplified) PRC
Japanese JPN
Korean KOR
Thai THA

SILENT - Silent mode setup
The Setup will be performed without requiring any user interaction. No user interface will be displayed at all. This is typically used by OEMs during automated system configuration.

Command-line syntax: /SILENT=YES
Short command-line syntax: /S
Configuration file syntax: SILENT = YES
REBOOT - Reboot system
If NO, the system will not be restarted after installation, even if it would be required under normal installation procedure. This might be useful for OEMs performing many installation steps on a system to minimize the number of system restart during the procedure.
If YES, the system will be restarted even if it would not be necessary under the current circumstances.

Command-line syntax: /REBOOT=[NO / YES]
Short command-line syntax: /N, /R
Configuration file syntax: REBOOT = [NO / YES]

Note that if this switch is set, the final Wizard page will reflect the switch's value without a way for the user to change it. For example, if the switch's value is YES, the user will not have other choice than to reboot his computer at the end of the process.

DISPLAYMODE - Set a specific display mode
Set the display mode for the newly installed display adapter(s). The mode is composed of the resolution (horizontal pixel number, vertical pixel number), pixel depth (8, 16, 24 or 32), then the font size in DPI (any number is good... Small font is 96, Large font is 120). Note that all parameters must be specified for the switch to be processed. Also, the specified mode will be applied to all installed devices (boards).

Command-line syntax: /DISPLAYMODE=[Hres],[Vres],[Pixel Depth],[Font size]
Short command-line syntax: /MODE=[Hres],[Vres],[Pixel Depth],[Font size]
Configuration file syntax: DISPLAYMODE = [Hres],[Vres],[Pixel Depth],[Font size]

WARNING: The specified mode will be set even if the display adapter can't support it. There is no validation performed by the Setup.

RESET_USER_CONFIG - Reset the current user configuration
If YES, will force reset of the user's Driver and PowerDesk configuration to the factory defaults (those that are specified in the INF file). The change is effective for the current user, that is, the one that is logged at the moment of the setup.
If NO, will prevent the user from resetting his Driver and PowerDesk configuration.

Command-line syntax: /RESET_USER_CONFIG=[YES / NO]
Short command-line syntax: /RESET, /NORESET
Configuration file syntax: RESET_USER_CONFIG = [YES / NO]

Note that when this switch is used, the associated Setup Wizard page will not be shown to the user.

RUN_QDESK - Prevent QuickDesk launch at startup
Prevent the QuickDesk applet to be launched at startup and be placed in the Tray bar.

Command-line syntax: /RUN_QDESK=NO
Short command-line syntax: /RUN_QDESK=NO
Configuration file syntax: RUN_QDESK = NO

RUN_DIAG - Prevent Diagnostics launch at startup
Prevent the Diagnostics program to be launch at startup.

Command-line syntax: /RUN_DIAG=NO
Short command-line syntax: /RUN_DIAG=NO
Configuration file syntax: RUN_DIAG = NO

COPY_ALL_DRIVERS - Install all drivers files of the package
Force the Setup to copy, on the target hard disk, all drivers' files referenced by the INF file. This will prevent the Windows' device installer from querying the user with his drivers' disk or CD when another Matrox board is installed in the system (and that board is supported by the package...).

Command-line syntax: /COPY_ALL_DRIVERS = YES
Short command-line syntax: /COPYALL
Configuration file syntax: COPY_ALL_DRIVERS = YES

Note that this switch can only be used with a CD-ROM package, or when all Drivers' files are present at the same place at copy time.

LOGFILE - Generate log file
A log file of the installation process is created in the specified directory. Creation of this file will always overwrite any previous log file present in the same directory. If no path is specified, the file is created in the same directory than the Setup executable file.

Command-line syntax: /LOGFILE="[Complete path]"
Short command-line syntax: /LOG="[Complete path]"
Configuration file syntax: LOGFILE = [Complete path]

Setup program's initialization file
The initialization file, named Setup.ini, stands to facilitate the modification of the Setup program's default behavior. It's a modified version of the Mga.ini file currently used with the Setup program version 3.8 and over.

Note: You only need to specify the sections and switches that need to be overridden: the Setup program will use its internal default values for all unspecified sections and switches.

You can see an example of the initialization file in Appendix A.

SETUP section
This section presents the organization of the "GENERAL" section of the old Mga.ini file, and gives the equivalent entries in the "SETUP" section of the new Setup.ini. As this file is useful to modify the base behavior of the Setup program, only needed switches have to be set in it; the Setup program have a default value for all switches that aren't specified in the file.

REGISTRY section
The Setup.ini file can contain a "REGISTRY" section that allows Driver switches to be added to the registry, without modifying the main .INF file. The switches specified in this section are added to the Driver registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_-MACHINE\-System\CurrentControlSet-\-Services\-xxxx\Device0, where "xxxx" is the ID of the service) of all installed devices (boards). The syntax is the following:

[Subkey]\[Value name] = [Value]

Note: Value can contains two types of information: an integer value ( in HEX format ) or binary values separated by commas.
TV_STANDARDS section
The "TVStandards" section contains Country vs TV Standard pairs that are written in the registry. Those entries are used by the PowerDesk Diagnostics application, when prompting the user to select the TV Standard of his country. The countries listed in this section will be added to the original Diagnostics' list, if there aren't already present. If they are, the specified TV Standard for this country will be used instead of the Diagnostics' one. The syntax is the following:

[Country name] = [TV Standard]

Other sections
The [BOOTUP], [AVAILLANG], [README] and [SIZE] sections are no longer used.

The [DELFILES], [INTERNET] and [<Schemes names entries>] sections are included in the INF file's content as part of AddReg sections.
