  • "newfeatureslink"=dword:00000000

does not work in 3.9, anyone knows any other way to disable it? - Baatch 11 years ago
    • With 3.9, "newfeatureslink" was renamed to "showfeatureslink".

Setting it to 0x00000027 (39) will prevent the IE window from appearing.

Aside from that, the rest of the information is still valid for 3.9. - Normannen 11 years ago

Switches available:

/S silent, and picasa launches after install
/S /L no launch after install
/S /L /L1 adds a desktop shortcut
/S /L2 no desktop shortcut, app will launch after install

E.g.
picasa38-setup.exe /S /L /L2
- means silent install, no launch after install, no desktop icon.

I use this reg to make Picasa silent.

I don't know if "LastABPromo" date is checked on each startup. But for now AutoBackup shuts up ;-)

How to disable the firstrun popups for Picasa Photo Viewer file associations and folder scanning settings:

Install the app, run the app, click the desired settings on both popups. Close picasa.

Go to your folder: C:\Users\{YOUR USER}\AppData\Local\Google\Picasa2\db3

ONLY copy the file thumbs_index.db, it contains those settings for some reason.

In your SCCM install script, copy that file to the default user profile like so:

copy /Y %~dp0dummy_database %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Google\Picasa2\db3

you should remove %~dp0 if you're not using a batch file, or if you're not doing this in SCCM. Test it as usual.

The result: After OSD, users don't get nagged about folder scanning or file associations. Necessary for public access workstations with Deep Freeze. It also won't auto-scan folders, which is probably not what you want.

  • This doesn't seem to work...there is no file "Thumbs_index.db"...there is "thumbsindex.db" and following the above steps with that file doesn't work for version 3.9 - ditch_nz 9 years ago
