K1000 Windows Update - Does it use the windows update component of the computer

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on this forum where i already found many good tips. So i would thank you all for that.

I am deploying Microsoft Windows Update patches with the KACE (K1000 v6.2.109330) integrated security patch system.

I discover that some users of my companie are using Windows Update computer software to install Microsoft patches.

This is obviously not what i want.

So I have decided to block Windows Update with GPO.

Now my question is, do KACE use Windows Update software on the computer to install his own Microsoft patches ?

If yes, how could i block automatic window update on users computer without disable KACE patches ?

Thank you very much.

* I apologize for my bad english.

** I run Windows 8.1 computer

  • Hi,
I am new to KACE, my company is using KACE for windows updates on servers, and we have set "Never check for update" on all 2008 R2 servers, but still Windows Module Installer service is running & Trustedinstaller.exe process is consuming some memory, now my question here is, if i set the trustedinstaller.exe process to Disable and set the service Windows Module installer to Manual, does it affect KACE windows updates installation on our servers - valabojusai 7 years ago

Hey SupITNinj,

I just been tasked with patching our systems using KACE.

To answer your question, yes. You can disable Windows Update using GPO and still get updates. Dell KACE has partnered with Lumension who test all patched before they are distributed to K1000s.

Once you have disabled Windows Update via GPO, you need to configure patching on the K1000. Patching will be accomplished using the KACE agent installed on your computers.

Here are some videos on KACE patching that will assist:

Hi SupITNinj,

no, KACE doesn´t use the Windows Update mechanism to deploy. You can leave all Windows Update Sites and settings blocked via GPO and use the agent installed on every machine.
