Windows Media Player 11 & Active Sync 4.2 issues

Hello,

I have silent MSI based installations for both Windows Media Player 11 and Active Sync 4.2 which I am wanting to deploy to a large number of workstations. For some reason, with this combination, if a user launches Windows Media player the Active Sync 'Get Connected' wizard appears! As you can appreciate this would be very annoying for any users who don't have Active Sync configured. Having searched loads of posts etc. I can't seem to find a way of turning this off!

Interestingly, if I use Windows Media Player 10 with Active Sync 4.2 the 'Get Connected' wizard doesn't appear!

Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Mark

Hi Mark,

I was looking for a solution to this problem and didn't find any on the tech sites so I experimented. I checked my Add/Remove Prog files and coudn't see Active Sync so I downloaded Active Sync 4.2 from MS web site here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7269173a-28bf-4cac-a682-58d3233efb4c&displaylang=en

That stopped it opening in MP11 but it then opened AS4.2 when I booted my PC up. I then removbed AS4.2 (this time it was listed in my Add/Remove list).

No more problem in MP11 or on boot up!
