I'm troubleshooting some computers that have the current agent installed but are not checking in.  So far, the problem has been a typo in the server address in most of them.  It would be easy to check and fix without disturbing the users if I could remotely update amp.conf to fix the URL except, it's in C:/users/All Users which is no longer used by Windows 7.  It should be in C:/users/Public.  Executive Share doesn't allow access to the All Users folder. It specifically states, "The symbolic link cannot be followed because its type is disabled."Does anyone know why the location hasn't been moved to C:\users\Public?  It would be much easier to manage if it were there. Thanks!

The amp.conf file should be in c:\programdata\dell\KACE. If it isn't getting placed there I would question whether it is being installed correctly and whether the user you are using to install it has admin rights on the machine.

  • To that point, if the agent is installing in c:/users/all users, I'd suggest opening a support ticket.

Yes, we install with profiles that have administrative rights.  I looked for the amp.conf in ProgramData first and then in the Public profile.  When it wasn't there I googled Kace 1000 Agent Troubleshooting and found this webpage.  That's how I found it.

Are we using the wrong installer for Windows 7?

  • That's interesting. On XP machines the configuration files are in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users, but on Windows 7 machines I have always seen them in C:\ProgramData. What installer are you using? I always grab the installer from the client share on the server.

Yes, I'm getting it from the server's client share.  We only have one installer there.
