Why am I getting an error message after I install Java 7 Update 51 32-bit?

I am getting this error message when I try to open Java in the Control Panel:

  • does that file exist? C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\lib\i386\jvm.cfg and do users have read and execute rights to it? - SMal.tmcc 10 years ago
  • The file does exist. I only got that error on a few machines. It did not happen with every workstation. - tsienkiewicz@ldirx.com 10 years ago
    • if it is reoccuring, try putting a blank file named that in the directory. looked at the file on mine and only contains a statement on how to configure it - SMal.tmcc 10 years ago
  • That error is one of the symptoms of a corrupted installation of Java. This is usually caused when the install is done silently and either IE or another browser is open. To fix it you have to uninstall Java then reinstall it from the Java website using the EXE. If you normally deploy Java silently you'll nee to make sure the user is logged before installing, like deploying following a reboot. - Arcuss88 10 years ago

Add JRE home/java home location  to your Path variable .

cmd.exe ->set - > Path variable to see if your jre home path is missing .

If so then add that to it . Jre_home is the location where your jre is installed e.g
C:\Java\jre1.6\jre\bin
