Unable to patch DMZ machines

Do clients require an internet connection to patch with Kace?
If not, why would my machines fail to detect or patch unless I delete the HANDSHAKE.LST file?

We have a couple handfuls of servers that are in our DMZ. They have access to our K1000 and communicate with it. Each system details page is updated and current. If I patch or try to detect one of our DMZ machines, they "error". If I delete the HANDSHAKE.LST file on one of the servers that fails to patch, then try again, it will succeed. This only occurs with our DMZ machines.

My network team has external connections to our DMZ blocked. They can still get to our K1000, but nothing on the internet.

Thanks
